Onanti is a Shipibo-Konibo language learning application available on the web, iOS, and macOS. This policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your information across all platforms.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the following from the identity provider:
- Name — displayed in your profile
- Email address — used as your unique account identifier
- Profile photo URL — displayed as your avatar (if provided by the identity provider)
We do not receive or store your password. Authentication is handled entirely by Google or Apple.
User-Created Content
We store content you create within the app:
- Study data — bookmarks, comfort levels, and study progress for vocabulary and songs
- Icaro contributions — sacred songs you write or edit, including text, morphological analysis, translations, and cultural notes
- Audio recordings — voice recordings you upload for community song contributions
- Dictionary contributions — word entries, translations, and example sentences you create or edit (editors and admins only)
- Chat messages — conversations with the AI language tutor
- Feedback — suggestions, corrections, or bug reports you submit
Automatically Collected Information
We do not collect analytics, device identifiers, IP addresses, location data, or usage statistics. We do not use any analytics SDKs or tracking frameworks. The app does not track you across other apps or websites.
Without an Account
If you use the app without signing in, we do not collect any personal information. Published dictionary entries and songs are accessible without an account.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account
- To store and sync your study progress, bookmarks, and contributions across devices
- To provide AI-powered language tutoring (chat messages are sent to Anthropic's API for processing)
- To enable community contributions — songs and audio you submit for publication
- To respond to feedback you submit
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or marketing purposes.
3. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own purposes. We do not use your data for advertising.
We use the following service providers to operate the app:
| Service | Purpose | Data Shared |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosting, database, file storage | All stored data (encrypted in transit and at rest) |
| Anthropic | AI language tutor, song analysis | Chat messages and song text you submit for AI processing |
| Sign-in authentication | OAuth token exchange only | |
| Apple | Sign-in authentication | OAuth token exchange only |
Chat messages and song text sent to Anthropic's Claude API are processed under Anthropic's privacy policy. These messages are not used to train AI models.
4. Tracking and App Tracking Transparency
Onanti does not track you. We do not:
- Use advertising identifiers (IDFA)
- Track you across other companies' apps or websites
- Share data with data brokers
- Use fingerprinting or any other tracking technology
Our iOS app declares NSPrivacyTracking = false in its privacy manifest.
5. Data Storage and Security
Web and iOS
Your data is stored using Cloudflare's infrastructure:
- D1 Database — account information, study progress, contributions, and chat history
- KV Storage — session tokens (expire after 30 days)
- R2 Object Storage — uploaded audio recordings
macOS Desktop App
The macOS desktop app stores data locally on your computer for offline access:
- Local database — a SQLite database in your Application Support folder containing dictionary entries, songs, and study progress
- Downloaded course materials — PDF files stored locally for offline study
- Session data — stored locally in a JSON file
The desktop app can optionally sync with our servers to receive updated content. No data is sent from your device to our servers without your action. All network communication uses HTTPS.
All data is encrypted in transit via HTTPS. Authentication uses OAuth 2.0 — we never store your password. Session tokens are cryptographically generated and expire automatically.
6. Data Retention
- Account data — retained until you delete your account
- Session tokens — automatically expire after 30 days
- User-created content — retained until you delete your account or remove the content
- Published contributions — songs and dictionary entries you have published may remain in the app after account deletion, attributed anonymously, to preserve the community resource
7. Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the Profile tab in the app. Deleting your account permanently removes:
- Your account and profile information
- All bookmarks and study progress
- All draft and private icaro contributions
- All chat history
- All feedback submissions
- All uploaded audio recordings
- Your active session
Deletion is immediate and irreversible. There is no recovery period.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access your personal data — your data is visible in the app
- Delete your account and data — available in the Profile tab
- Correct your information — editable in the app
- Export your data — contact us to request a data export
- Object to processing — contact us with your request
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].
9. Children's Privacy
Onanti is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. International Data Transfers
Your data is processed and stored on Cloudflare's global infrastructure. By using the app, you consent to the transfer of your information to facilities outside your country of residence, where data protection laws may differ.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app.
